The demands on the countryside to provide and maintain the resources needed for food and non-food production, coupled with the increasing requirement for public access, leisure activities and environmental protection have increased the need for appropriately qualified managers and advisers. These individuals require knowledge and understanding of environmental issues, combined with a clear understanding of agricultural and rural land management. This course builds on environmental and landscape knowledge from previous studies to provide the necessary policy and business expertise required of future countryside managers.
Course Structure
The course is based on a modular structure. A small core of compulsory modules covering a range of countryside management and policy issues is accompanied by an individual research enquiry. In addition, you will select a number of elective modules, from the extensive College list, thus enabling either greater specialisation in specific sector areas or a broader understanding of countryside issues.
If you have already secured employment, you may elect to study up to 50% of the course based in the workplace, thus reducing the time required to attend campus-based modules.

The normal entry requirement will be a foundation degree or HND award passed with a merit profile in a cognate subject acceptable for entry to the specific honours pathway. Depending on previous studies, you may also be required, following individual interview, to complete additional ‘bridging’ studies, prior to enrolling on the honours course in order to cover identified gaps in previous learning.
