Equine Management

About Equine Management

Gloucestershire is synonymous with horses. Being based in the heart of the Cotswolds, we are within striking distance of Badminton and Cheltenham. Our equine department was set up in 1992 after extensive consultations with the various areas of the equine industry. Since that date, we have maintained our links with the industry and have continued to redefine the programme to meet employer requirements. Our graduates have gone into a diverse range of equine careers. The increase in leisure time has meant an increase in equine-related businesses and the emphasis of equine teaching at the RAC is on learning the business and management skills needed. This is achieved with a blend of practice and theory.

We draw on every aspect of equine-related enterprises and sports. The modules are supplemented by a series of talks given by the leaders in the various equine fields. This has the benefit of giving you an insight into the latest developments and an opportunity to build up contacts that will help you find employment upon graduation. All Equine (Hons) courses require the completion of a research dissertation on a relevant topic. This is set against a backdrop of research that the College carries out in conjunction with equine-related companies, covering such subjects as nutrition and genetics.

We recognise the international dimension of modern business and so, in your second and third years, if you are on the international programme, you go on study tours to Germany, France and the USA (Kentucky). This gives you the opportunity to see how other countries approach business management and research. We also have connections and liaise with the best equine institutions around the world, such as the elite Westphalian Riding School.
